But guess what? This is actually happening. We are sitting in history. And demanding that politicians respond appropriately isn't just a matter of emotional catharsis. Being in that room is illogical. It doesn't make sense. The things our putative opposition is doing do not make sense.
Virtually no one in politics can bear acting like any of this is happening because, heaven forfend, it would mean breaking from political habit. It would mean we're not above the kind of forces that have toppled and degraded states the world over.
This man attempted a coup. He goaded his supporters into an attack on our legislature. He is illegally dismantling disfavored parts of the federal government. He is actively persecuting minorities. He is leveraging the power of the state to quash dissent and suppress science and research.

If you think workers will report their injuries to OSHA, think again. They asked that I not share any identifying details that could lead to their visas being revoked. Visa holders are so nervous, they’re asking friends to go to the grocery store for them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...
