JUST IN: The Republican Mayor of Fairbanks, Alaska’s second biggest city, lost re-election last night to a Democrat.

Mayor David Pruhs is a conservative who fought protections for LGBTQ+ residents; he made comments this year drew condemnation this year from Alaska Natives. He lost to Mindy O'Neall.

CNN: The judge presiding over the prosecution of Jim Comey has agreed to Comey’s request to schedule a near term trial. Comey asked for a Jan 12 trial date. The judge went with Jan 5. Comey is counting on the gov’t not being ready for trial. A good bet.

There may be challenges but comparing today to the USA in the 60s is absurd.
For comparison in the 60s smaller cars were not popular. It wasn't until the oil crisis that their popularity boomed.

Matlow asks about Ford's claim that speed bumps can replace speed cameras. Gray says the city already install lots of speed bumps and other traffic calming measures, but speed bumps aren't really appropriate on arterial roads because they can mess with transit and emergency services.

Councillor Bravo asks about the finances of the speed camera program. CFO says 24% of fine revenue is remitted back to the province. Admin costs take 35%. Remainder goes to road safety initiatives, including to pay the salaries of 18 police officers, plus crossing guards, etc.

And there’s the root of it. We all let ourselves fall for the mass production, cheap, plentiful, clothing that was mass marketed to us. We started to think we need to buy hundreds of things. Now the good stuff is the exception. Btw thrift stores/Poshmark are amazing for finding those things. 🙂

Gray says the City didn't want to reveal the threshold over the limit at which the cameras start ticketing — now reported at 11 km/h — because the city worried drivers would just adjust and assume the "real" speed limit is the posted limit plus the threshold.
