Remember jam of the month clubs? You knew you were going to get a jam, and you like jams, but you didn’t know what kind of jam was coming, but it was exciting.

Indie games should be like this. You trust the source, you know you like video games. Let them cook and make something great.

OK, #gamedev real talk: I've found it difficult to design games to specific genres, because designing something new is my raison d'être.

However, it's hard to get people on board with a new game that doesn't neatly align with a genre they like, so for our new title, I'm doing it.

As an elder millennial (Dylan here) - I absolutely agree.

This sentiment has been a curse on the games industry for decades and it's not made anyone make better, more meaningful games.

It has burned thousands out of an industry that could be better.

You provide a service, and you're paid for the service. Your life is not your career. I'm not going to be on my deathbed thinking to myself, "Damn, I wish I'd spent more of my life working harder for that company that laid me off after 20 years."

As far as “giving back,” we’d hope that will happen, but it’s not a requirement for any of our alumni. At the end of the day the goal of FPC is to get a developer or studio to a 1.0 status without fear of burning out or going broke.

This is an interesting take. At the end of the day FPC is trying to get into a position to bring player more into a space where they’re willing to invest in development without huge vertical slices up front. Allowing developers to take the time they need to make what they want.
