The FTAO regrets the European Parliament’s failure to ensure prices truly compensate farmers.

By rejecting a key amendment, MEPs have opened a dangerous backdoor for exploitation, undermining trust in the entire agri-food supply chain and in truly fair schemes.

Last week, the FTAO team took a break from screens & keyboards for a refreshing team-building afternoon at La Ferme du Chant des Cailles, an urban, participatory & eco-friendly farm in Watermael-Boitsfort (Brussels-Capital).

We enjoyed delicious apples, local cheeses & met the friendliest sheep!🐑🍎🧀

✅ Ensure prices are truly remunerative;
✅ Clarify control systems and avoid fairwashing;
✅ Avoid excluding schemes that prioritise higher prices over premiums.

🚨The FTAO is deeply concerned by the @ec.europa.eu’s proposal to delay the #EUDR. This risks legal uncertainty for producers and raises doubts about the EU’s commitment to sustainable value chains.

Any delay must be strictly limited & used to support smallholders in a fair, sustainable transition.

MEPs are preparing to vote on the #Omnibus proposal, which could weaken the #CSDDD and strip protections for SMEs & smallholders in cases of buyer disengagement. ✂️

📢 Disengagement must be responsible and remain a last resort to protect livelihoods and supply chain resilience.

⚠️ Despite positive steps, the #AGRI report risks enabling misleading “fairness” claims, undermining the high standards currently applied by the #FairTrade Movement.

We urge MEPS to ensure:

📢Ahead of this week's plenary vote, the FTAO urges MEPs to support the #PublicProcurement report adopted by the #IMCO Committee.

While not perfect, it promotes greater access for SMEs to public tenders, credible sustainability labels & a shift from “lowest price” to MEAT criteria.
