📢 The climate talks #COP30 in Belém conclude with a largely empty deal:
❌ No halt to deforestation,
❌ No fossil fuel phaseout, and
❌ No climate finance at the scale the crisis demands.

Reportedly, continuation of the Rainforest Alliance scheme in Kenya depends on Govt recommendations being implemented over the next three months.

The Kenya Govt. is emphasizing that sustainability standards operating there should be fair, transparent, and locally contextualised.

Sounds fair.

Europe is now getting alot wrong about trade and sustainability - greater competitiveness for large companies ✅ and greater compliance for small-scale farmers ✅ - the trickle down myth used to be about benefits - now it’s true about trickle down costs.

Would also be great if the EU Green Deal, which birthed the Nature Restoration Law, also enabled farmers and communities in the Global South to benefit from wise stewardship of the natural world.

The EU deforestation regs (EUDR), alive again today, need to pay for Regen ag in poorer countries.

Organic farmers are vital for sustainable food systems, but many risk exclusion under the new EU Organic Regulation.

This #WorldFoodDay, we urge the EU to ensure fair, clear rules so smallholders stay in the system & consumers continue to have access to sustainable organic food.🌍🌱

🚨The FTAO is deeply concerned by the @ec.europa.eu’s proposal to delay the #EUDR. This risks legal uncertainty for producers and raises doubts about the EU’s commitment to sustainable value chains.

Any delay must be strictly limited & used to support smallholders in a fair, sustainable transition.

The story of a lovely woman who lived to be 95 and died yesterday in Clonakilty. She achieved alot by not accepting the status quo - in the church, in international trade - and did things about it herself.

She set up the Fairtrade communities in Ireland 🙌🏼🙏 👏👌
