What Dems need is not necessarily to move far left on policy but to find candidates who can use the left’s tactics and dynamism to advance center left causes. Call it radial centrism or something

This is not meant as a criticism, but people assume you are far left because of your stridency and social media prowess when your actual views are pretty center-left. People have subconsciously (and maybe correctly) associated the center with uselessness and the left/right extreme with activism

Bill Center has been subjecting San Diego to his awful takes since it was part of Mexico
December 9, 2025 at 10:06 PM
He was awful in the playoffs. He made it into the 4th inning of game 2 vs the Cubs and the infield celebrated like he was a 6 year old at his birthday party.

Except for the attractive lady in seat 11C. She must wear tight fitting Lululemon gear.

If we use the back door option effectively, there won’t be a need for abortions

It’s hard to build homes when the govt has an explicit policy to reduce the population (and population growth).

Savant makes it hard (at least for me) to find the catch probability of specific plays, but that’s the better way of determining the quality of barger’s read

Well, Kevin, what else are they supposed to eat?

Kershaw, Freddie, Mookie, Ohtani and Scherzer are locks. Vlad and Yamamoto could build a case. Snell and glasnow have the talent but not the durability. Springer had the talent but missed too much time. I’d say ultimately 6 make it

Lol. The “sic” you included in the quote was the deepest burn in an article that was already pure 🔥
October 22, 2025 at 10:56 PM
The way Olney framed it, he was reporting schilling’s interest not UT’s, which sort of begs the question why Olney is carrying water for Schilling. I could see (stupid) political reasons for UT to hire Schilling and getting this story out is one way to build pressure

Agree that the Padres don’t believe in Eguy & he prob wants out. Dude could more than replace what Iglesias did last year, especially since Crone can also fill in at SS. I’m projecting some, but a 3B/2B/SS/LF platoon bat with some thump would have been awesome this season.
October 18, 2025 at 11:23 PM
These are a small consolation to having been eliminated… how come Eguy Rosario doesn’t show up on SD’s depth chart? Is he a minor league FA? Given the lack of infield depth and need for more righty bats, I’d like to see him make the team
October 18, 2025 at 10:52 PM
A short side platoon 1B/dh/corner OF (shudders) bat is not the most valuable asset but has hit lefties well the past few years. I think he’d be an interesting fit in SD to pair with Sheets

Well yes, but…um… not the same kind of beaver
September 23, 2025 at 3:13 AM
And just a few months later you can see beavers on the streets of Liverpool most weekend nights. Nature is incredible

This is the move where they recharacterize a criminal or unethical act to sound innocuous. Oh, it’s illegal to speak with the President of Ukraine? Now it’s “oh, it’s illegal to send a birthday card?”

I think this perspective better illustrates what the NYT is doing than the more direct mockery of their headlines/word choice

Perhaps most importantly, this new stat is validated by what should become a new measuring stick. Much as we used to joke that a stat reaches significance once Mike Trout was #1, the converse appears to be that a stat is significant if it has one or more Rockies in last place.

Super interesting work. Taking an edge case in Quintana, the model implies that his adversarial control shaved about a quarter run off his ERA, which explains about a third of his FIP over performance. Although it’s curious that he hasn’t overperformed his FIP since 2017
August 22, 2025 at 5:50 PM
Donovan Solano is maybe a tick too good and Tyler Wade too obscure. Nick Senzel would be perfect but maybe he’s sub replacement
August 21, 2025 at 8:32 PM
The dude with the “best bat control” in the league personally accounts for almost half of all 2nd PA bunts this season. It would be hilarious if I weren’t a Padres fan.
August 21, 2025 at 7:59 PM
I was about to say that arraez does this all the time.
August 21, 2025 at 7:53 PM
Half joking because he was clearly good before he got to SD. More seriously I think I’d look for a generic platoon 1B/DH type who keeps bouncing around. A Rowdy Téllez, Gavin Sheets, Don Smith type.
