Storm cleanup and dead hedge building
December 20, 2025 at 5:02 PM
Second swale is about 90% done, and the hugelbed is ready for compost.

Current state of swales. Apologies for the twisty camera work.
July 31, 2025 at 9:24 PM
Vine clearing. Wreaths being twisted, and dead hedges being built back up.

Well, it’s definitely not “professional”, but it’s at least starting to look “intentional”

A new wood rack design that shouldn’t tip as easily, and a load of pine chips put to good use
June 14, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Adjustments to the drainage trench did exactly what I wanted
June 7, 2025 at 9:53 PM
2 more pawpaw trees for the swale, clearing the scarlet oak to make room for another load, and the start of a large hugelbed
June 2, 2025 at 11:44 AM
The Boss™️ and his buddy joined me for a morning walk to gather drainage pebbles. Then I found some wild blackberries (?) and planted a young one in the yard. Last night a pawpaw tree made it to the swale, but I will need at least another if I want fruit, apparently.

The drainage trench and swale at peak flow today. Hopefully I can get this right.

Improving the swale and adding a drainage trench from the downspout.

Early visitors, expanding the dead hedge, splitting some beautiful beech, and two tired mutts.

The beginning of a dead hedge, made with cleared-out forsythia and other branches
April 13, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Rain. The diverter and swale are performing as intended, and I haven’t yet killed the apple tree. The dogs are smarter than their master.

Amazing how many hundreds of yards of vines have to be pulled up to liberate 15 feet of lawn.
April 5, 2025 at 1:50 PM
Added new varieties of blackberry and raspberry to the “edible path” and a honeycrisp apple tree to the swale

But wait I thought Trump was a smart business man. So he would never throw away 20.5 billion dollars generated by Canadian tourism each year with his terrible policies and tank the economy even further…..would he.

Some sorcerer stole my little girl and replaced her with this beautiful young woman. Sunrise, sunset.

The cherry trees survived inexpert transplanting and pruning. Let’s hope the apple and mulberry made it too.

The stump was doused but rekindled, so Mac and Molly had to join us in watching it burn
March 16, 2025 at 11:53 AM
It begins again. Beautiful scarlet oak that makes me wish I had a sawmill.
March 15, 2025 at 10:31 PM
Cleared out some old logs for a neighbor, and now it’s time to burn this beech stump out
March 15, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Getting rid of excess, transplanting a mulberry to the swale, and being reminded why the wood is free.
