Stay at home Dad. Has CES and occasionally talks about it. Strong nerd vibes
(Only chiming in because my folks were massive Beatles fans and there’s a 4 year age gap between em, Mum would’ve been 17-18 when they got married, for context. And this discussion was had one Christmas not long ago)

TBF, when that track was released the age gap back in 63,, between, say McCartney and a 17 year old was 3 years. Lennon was older though

And the AoC in the UK had been 16 for over a century.

Not sure that back then, a relationship in the UK with that age gap would be particularly shocking is all

I like cooking these days but even when I found it onerous and stressful, I’d just batch cook and freeze stuff. (Eg: 8 portions of Bolognaise or stew at a time)

All you have to do on a daily basis is cook veggies or pasta etc. And after time, when I had practice cooking, the stress went away

Doesn’t mean they have to say it though, does it? They made their own choices

Not saying there aren’t any with those skills, but it’s certainly not a requirement

Barristers tend to be very detail driven, retentive and risk adverse in many cases. Unlike their TV counterparts, rousing oratory isn’t a required skill, exhaustive preparation takes its place

You post many, many intelligent and erudite takes so it’s good to know that you can occasionally be terminally wrong 😘

Does anyone else have a penchant for buying all kinds of knife sharpening devices as a secondary effect of having some really nice kitchen knives? Just me?

I have a notebook I use for all this stuff. Timings, temps, prep order. It’s a glorious thing.

Also doubles as an impromptu cookbook for when I, inevitably, fiddle with a recipe

Unfortunately as the language changes, it becomes fewer and fewer important by the day

Until the inevitable inflation hit. Because the two were directly correlated

In the year of our lord 2025, this exact combination of traits can land you a job in the White House

Dan Hodges, now there’s a man who could demand answers from an inanimate carbon rod for weeks at a time.

What’s it about this time? (I really don’t want to head to the everything app)

When I was growing up, my local magistrate was an ex-territorial army dude with zero legal training and multiple drink-driving offences to his name.

She’s always been like this, unfortunately. Her entire brand is fucking awful, bigoted harridan.

The only difference nowadays is she probably makes more money from it

Quality dogposting.

It’s why simplistic goes hand in hand with conspiracism, expecting complex issues to have simple, ‘common sense’ answers is only a hop and a skip away from blaming ‘others’ when those solutions, inevitably, don’t work

Winning the Brexit referendum & leaving the EU absolutely broke the brains of everyone working there. They lost their main scapegoat and have been chasing the high of another ever since

Babies do be like that

What spectacular timing from the IEA.

Maybe a year too late?

I’ve spent a huge amount of money getting naff tattoos I got as a teen, covered up.

But even then, way back in the 90’s, I never felt the urge to get paired lightning bolts, or an iron cross, or a sonnenrad done.

Skins are optional, right?

This happened to me on no less than 6 consecutive days, back in May.

(Yes, I know this is almost certainly about the NYT, but in my headcannon there’s a reporter there who thinks Fryes adventures are a documentary)
