Fantasy Book Nerd
@fantasybooknerd.bsky.social
From out of the depths of the blogosphere came a mighty whimper, a being of total incompetence. With his mighty powers of making it up as he goes along comes Fantasy Book Nerd. A being of less than average qualities who reads books and talks shite!
What a revelation! I didn’t know these things existed. These could have saved loads of pairs of trainers coz I have turned up toes (no, I’m not a witch - or am I?)

After faking his death at the hands of the Uruk - Hai, Boromir found a quiet corner of middle earth to set up his dream life goal as a pretzel baker

Different series I think! It has some of the same characters. Particularly Renee Montoya before she becomes The Question. This is the one I was talking about. It’s really quite a gritty noirish police procedural and has Mr Freeze in the first book.

Tonight’s film: Dangerous Animals.
Proper enjoyed this one. Sat on the edge of my seat for most of it!

It was probably 2000AD as well. Or whatever I could pick up at market stalls

Ok! It’s decided. One of the books I have just read is following Womble’s @runalongwomble.bsky.social The 2026 BookTempter’s TBR Challenge. For my next read I am going for the stretch read. Whilst this book is technically shy by just a week or so, it’s is a book I have been meaning to read for 5yrs

It’s that time that every reader dreads

First lot of finished books for this year. I finally got around to reading some Gemma Amor! All in all generally quite good, although I did have mixed feelings about one of them.

If you like instrumental music Tides from Nebula are a fantastic band. Full of grand sweeping riffs their songs are engrossing in both their complexity and simpleness. Their last studio album, Instant Rewards is a fantastic album and a great place to start.

I will put it on my next to read list as I am currently halfway through Pig Wife by Abbey Luck which is out next year.

Starting off the New Year with @runalongwomble.bsky.social TBR challenge with what is technically the last book I put on my TBR (I bought it on Boxing Day, so the book I got bought for Christmas is the second to last)

One of the books I am flicking through is this one. I am loving looking at the fantastic pictures and anecdotal stories of the films, the people and the industry.

I always join in those ‘post a film that you have seen more than xxx amount of times’. I will generally put something in that I have seen but never put this down, which I have seen goodness knows how many times.

Might have got a little bit tempted by this one. Not my usual bag of mashing but I like to step outside now and again!

Latest read is the arc for Grace by A.M. Shine which is out sometime next year (I can’t exactly recall the date without looking). I have loved all of A. M. Shine’s books so far and can’t wait to see what this one has in store.

Listened to the new remaster of Dawnrazor by Fields of the Nephilim today and it still sounds as good as it did in 1987. One of the things most notable though is that all 14 tracks are on, which kind of makes it complete.

Some albums I have been enjoying recently.

1. Graveripper - From Welkin to Tundra
2. The Acacia Strain - You are safe from God Here
3. Struck a Nerve - Struck a Nerve
4. Bloody Falls - Amartia

Next book for me is a Jules Verne book I had not heard of called The Carpathian Castle. Which happens to be a gothic horror!

I am sorry! WHAT? Is this a typo? I don’t care how ‘premium’ this is.

Did I just buy The End of Gods by @markstay.bsky.social. Of course I bloody well did coz I have been looking forward to this one all year. The End of Gods is available directly from the website Mark Stay Writes, as is the rest of the trilogy.
