I think a good social feature example is in final fantasy XIV. Wear a high level experience play here can be level scaled down to new players so they don't just carry the party but can actually play with them.

This means they can have an experienced player play with them but still be engaged.

Honestly, it's probably him stroking his own ego. Because he has to be the center of attention, and he believes he can't lose from this scenario. Either the big boy pushing people around and getting what he wants, or they capitulate and he gets to say he did it.
