It’s only pejorative because we have allowed it to become so. If we are to educate then educate we should and that includes how language is used for the good and the bad. We should not attempt to rewrite history, nor should we expel words from language because some wish to use it in a derogatory way

The word retard means to “hinder, delay, keep back, to make slow.” It was not used as a derogatory word until 1895. Just because some knuckleheads use the word in an unsavoury manner does not mean the word should not be used or removed from language/history. So the crotch grabber will slow USA down.
