Wife made the most incredible Thanksgiving bird this year!

Just now catching up on posts. Always mad dash to get cuttings out between November and December cutback time. Finally able to take a breathe, reflect, and be thankful.

You can’t convince me that my Zombie Chicken doesn’t look like a Chocobo!

If you’ve ever wondered about if a plant is poison ivy or poison oak - in the South especially it’ll give itself away in the fall as it turns into a gorgeous, irritating foliage color. Look at all that red coloring! Beautiful!

By far our biggest grower of the year was Texas Everbearing, trunks got to an average of 3 inches around and 5.5 feet in average height in one growing season with routine applications of 10-10-10. Hoping to lay off this year to get more ripe main crop, but the breba was DELICIOUS fruit!

If you’ve ever considered if trifoliate orange root stock can become an invasive spreader - here’s TFO growing as a full tree in the middle of a parking garage in New Orleans with minimal sunlight, nutrients, and water.

Taking a few moments to reflect and consider the year. What a wild ride it’s been. Thankful to have the opportunity to get up in my stand and watch a morning wake up into a full day.

Between busy days, wrapping up cuttings for the season and getting ready for covered plantings to be put in the spring.

Sometimes it’s tough to watch nature when one species I love kills another species I love. RIP my dude!

Got enough cuttings from figs this year to get a new PTO assembly / turn over the beast without issue! Long overdue.

One of those incredible things to see a bobcat on my farm, letting me know that there’s a strong enough ecosystem to sustain good predation. I see this one periodically on my cameras! #bobcat #mississippi #neworleans

Incredible how one drove of invasive hogs can cause so much damage in just one night. It’s not their fault that they are here…but man if they don’t wreck things.

Invasive species damage from feral hogs in just one night.

Spent the day planting water and chestnut oaks to replenish what was lost due to boundary error by a neighbor, previously removing some of my oaks and magnolias.

This area frequently gets rain and is part of a flood bank. Neither trees will be upset about wet feet. Wildlife will have food.

Pulling up some water oak saplings for spring time growths out of the shade of the parent trees 😎

Watching a wood duck drake and hen glide around the pond this morning. I’m in no way a photographer and have no camera :) was still a nice moment to enjoy!

For those affected by the recent freezes and snow: as the snow melts, hold off on assessing and cutting back foliage. Give them until the early spring to show you signs of life. You don’t have to get your shovels yet.

Plants are magnificent at compartmentalizing damage, like wound care nurses.

Never would’ve thought I’d be in snow in Louisiana while my farm up North in Mississippi is 60 degrees!

Here’s to snow sledding on pool rafts!
