Speaking of technologies nearly lost to time, does anyone else remember the QWIP machine, produced by Exxon of all companies? It was a very early fax-style machine that I encountered when I was working retail in the early 80s.

I was unaware of this whole story. Fascinating.
“Jim called me up and said, ‘You’d really be good as the singer,’” Mr. Reid said in a 2016 interview with Mojo. But there were complications, starting with his contract to produce solo work for the pop impresario Mickie Most, who had minted hits for the Animals, Donovan and others. And then there were the Rolling Stones. Mr. Reid had made a handshake agreement with the guitarist Keith Richards to accompany the Stones on their 1969 tour. “I said, ‘Yeah, I’d love to give it a shot,’” Mr. Reid recalled telling Mr. Page in a 2007 interview with The Independent of Britain. “‘But I’ve just got to pop off for a minute to do this Stones tour and I don’t want to be the one to tell Keith I’m not going.’”

It was there that he met the Beatles, whom he had derided as “poor foreign imitations” of the American rock ’n’ roll originals in a 1964 article for The Yale Daily News. “Whenever the first strains of ‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’ begin to twitch my stirrup bones,” Mr. Lydon wrote, “I send out silent screams for help to Chuck Berry, Elvis” and others “who have long defended the American way of rock.” His view changed after the Beatles’ landmark 1965 album, “Rubber Soul,” with its nuanced and introspective songwriting. The album seemed to change the Beatles’ view of themselves, too. “You don’t know us now if you don’t know ‘Rubber Soul,’” John Lennon told Mr. Lydon in a 1966 interview. “All our ideas are different now.”

Okay: JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Coinbase Global Inc. signed an agreement to directly link customers’ bank accounts to their cryptocurrency wallets. ... In addition to linking bank accounts, customers will be able to fund Coinbase accounts with their Chase credit cards for the first time — an option expected to be active this fall, the firms said in the statement. They will also be able to redeem Chase rewards points to fund their crypto wallets. In 2022, the leverage in the crypto system came from insanely careless crypto lending platforms. In 2025 it will come from … Chase credit cards? Sure, seems fine.
