Legal academic (counterterrorism, national security, family regulation, feminist legal theory, human rights). British-Libyan. 🇵🇸
It was great hosting Professor Ali Ahmida here in Doha. The insights he gave about the notion of ‘hidden genocide’ through Sociolegal explorations of concentration camps in Libya during Italian colonisation were revealing, shocking and informative. Do read his books if you can.

One of my favourite photos of Conor during his visit to Doha earlier this year . He was always able to be so informative whilst making everyone laugh. I’m going to miss you so much, mentor and friend. May you rest blessed and in peace.

When the Italian fascist state committed genocide against Libyans, it used starvation as a weapon. It was so pervasive it came to be colloquially known as ‘shar’ or evil. Until now, in Libya we refer to hunger as shar/ evil, such is the intergenerational trauma of famine. Famine is man made evil.

Doing some sunset reading and it occurs to me that the book I’m reading is a gift, and the bookmark is a gift. So much of the rituals of reading centre around gifting and it’s part of what makes it so special and never really solitary

Happy to share that my article, 'The Securitisation of Parents: The Regulation of Parenting in the Counterterrorism Context' has been published by the CFLQ. The journal isn’t open access: feel free to ask for a copy, or alternatively you can access the article on LexisNexis here: lnkd.in/eY39bsK9

Human rights discourses here are really something because in many ways trade partners should be the ones insisting on human rights guarantees from the UK, so especially for migrants who get treated appallingly. But I see that the human rights sector is still as imperial and arrogant as ever

If you’re having to say this, you’ve pretty much failed, haven’t you? You’ve definitely done a racism, haven’t you?
