As for cages, I assume they never needed one. We use cages to put animals in. Can't think of anything else we would put in a cage. Prison is different. That's a room with bars, although could be called a cage but people don't call it that.

Also when the chalk board showed the message about animals, you can hear some students laughing. Back to blind faith the line in popular has a line about leaders and great communicators if they had brains or knowledge "don't make me laugh, they were popular". Just like the wizard.
