A lot of shops that partner with food banks have moved to a 'premade bag' model where the shop picks a better range of stuff at varying prices in bags for customers to buy and donate rather than people donating weird odds and ends.

I think the UK kind of has an opposite problem where people primarily donate weird cheap tinned stuff. Varying quality.
