A forever curious, systems thinker with a critical eye, and a queer, neurodivergent, intersectional feminist perspective Fawkes Conibear breaks down big topics into plain English.
"[H]ope is an ax you break down doors with in an emergency; because hope should shove you out the door, because it will take everything you have to steer the future away from endless war, from the annihilation of earth's treasures and the grinding down of the poor and marginal." - Rebecca Solnit

The AirCan strike also shows the inadequacy of our labour protections. I hope the gov't lets this play out, instead of undermining unions through back to work orders. Best of luck to CUPE. Solidarity Forever! ✊✊✊

I don't know what's in the water at Teen Vogue, but they routinely publish some of the most thoughtful, radical, and clear-sighted articles I've ever seen in the mainstream. I wish our major news outlets were as hard hitting as this piece.

2) when there is reason to believe that less drastic tactics will be ineffective, showing how deep the problem goes; &,
3) when the wrongdoers have violated a “higher charter, convention or edict”.

or

"when the severity or urgency of the harm" demands it.

1) to stop immediate, “serious and irreversible harm”. Where the need to act swiftly is stronger than the preference for “lawful advocacy or civil disobedience”;

Direct action works! But when should you use it?

How to Blow Up a Pipeline tells us,

Direct action should only be used…

I'm almost finished my article on Andreas Malm's book How to Blow Up a Pipeline. Here's a sneak peak at some of the lessons we can learn from Malm.

Watch out! New Substack post in the works. If you're pipeline curious, this one's for you. I'll be weaving my own experience and studies with Malm's as a give an overview of his insightful view on environmental activism and climate change.

Remember when people thought eugenics was bad? We need to be loud about that again, because this kind of policy is eugenics. It's not about supporting people that want to have babies. It's about making sure the "right" kind of people have babies.

Enjoyed a camping at the Rockwood Conservation Area. Spent some time reading Deepening Community by Paul Born in my hammock, and canoeing the Eramosa River. I'm grateful for hard work of the Grand River Conservation Authority in protecting our beautiful waterways.

During my time in Calgary, I learned a lot about connecting with people through storytelling and maintaining relationships through ceremony. Read more about it on my Substack.

I'm no lawyer, but doesn't this makes it easier for CSIS to collect our data and share our data? They're even going after your snail mail. There can be no privacy in a surveillance state 👁️ . #StrongBordersAct #BillC2 #cdnpoli

This sounds exactly like the tools being used by the US government to deport unsuspecting immigrants. Cancelling their documents without notice. Providing the thinnest veil of legitimacy before ICE storms their home and disappears them into the back of an unmarked van. #cdnpoli #immigration #fascism

This is the FBI. They know exactly which doctors provide gender affirming care. They don't need public reporting. This is spin doctoring to feign broad support for this. This is a threat to doctors and patients. DO NOT COMPLY! This is fascism.

So grateful I've been able to attend a couple of conferences lately. It's been reinvigorating to reconnect with my classmates and make new connections with people over the shared interest of land stewardship and responsible planning.
