Our on stream pond gets a lot of punishment from upstream runoff, still attracts birds and fish.
But we’re planning to dig a new pond among reeds and rushes to widen their choice

Very touching to see birds lining up at our feeders, some like to jump the queue but it’s often a pretty orderly gathering
Today lots of blue and coal tits, chaffinches, also goldfinches, greenfinches and the treat of a nuthatch. Not so many blackbirds but good to see them foraging in hedges

Enjoyed a ‘chat’ with you @bobin.uk
on problem Labour (& btw SNP) faces in reforming dysfunctional policies
My Scottish winter fuel payment was decided soley because I am old enough and live with someone equally old. How/where might this money be better spent?

I agree! I find it hard to understand - the pension already exceeds many wages and will keep rising. Young people are struggling to pay rent (mortgage out of reach) why do they want to support rising pensions for people (home owners like me) who don’t need the increase. And didn’t vote for it!

Such a waste of the crisis we are in. So many issues unresolved since 2008 and the pandemic. And who is benefiting?

Triple lock is nuts economics - likewise winter fuel payment (I am a pensioner, still working)
Yet many wealthy old folks vote Tory/Farage and alienated young folks turn to ‘eco-populism’ (with even more bonkers economics)

They do need to be bolder. I am surrounded by inundated farmland. Extreme weather is accelerating and food security is now a critical issue.
I thought the gradual movement sensible, now not so sure, and Labour language needs to offer much more hope to young people.

Would be good if Starmer could pick up the public mood on Brexit and Climate Change - and help to influence positive change on other issues needing sensible reform (like the triple lock)

Opening each door feels particularly meaningful to me this year. Moving house, mourning a friend, watching a magpie, learning from wagtails, looking at the winter garden, making art for friends (no screens), Betty’s house….all so well chosen
