Without listening directly to speeches or late night comedy shows or BlueSky postings like Aaron’s I would have no idea how deranged our chief executive is. News programs really don’t present the insanity. It’s fascinating.

It’s stupefying how profound the impacts are to every citizen and business and our relationships to other countries and yet… there is no timely ruling. The expert court in this area ruled in August? The case was argued in November? So disappointing.

I think some religious people are drawn to holding the ultimate power of eternal salvation and damnation over themselves and others, and some are religious because they know they behave badly and are trying to self treat, and some are religious because they are spiritual and sincere. An interesting thing about lying a lot is it unravels successful human cooperation, in families, companies, economies, legal systems, countries.

With the travel, hotel, car rentals, salary of all the ICE in Minneapolis, the business disruptions, wrongful arrests, how much is each successful deportation there actually costing? Is it a $100k each, $500k?… Aside from the terror and chaos and wrongfulness, it’s probably pretty inefficient.

The insurrection act, a law passed by congress, allows a president to issue a proclamation that in effect ends the constitutional rights of citizens and states? Obviously this isn’t true. The weight on so little a text, it’s a kind of hysteria, right wing hysteria, that they have this magic wand.

Probably not helpful, but it seems to me there are two possible futures for the historical reputation of the Roberts court: 1) entirely forgotten, in an autocratic U.S. 2) shameful, in a recovered U.S. democracy.

Oh, also it is just another day when the-world-is-ruled-by-force guy Stephen Miller and this ICE guy rely on cashiers, waiters, baristas , pedestrians, teachers, professional police, nurses,… to not suddenly pull out a gun or baseball bat. The world is actually ruled by cooperation. Just look.
