I think he came up with ALL the melodies himself, which was my point. I was specifically saying the music (not words) of Elton's songs vs the music (also not words) of Stevie's.

I'm not sure either Elton (or even Brandi) are in their prime anymore. This is like comparing today's aging athletes with their younger selves. Or comparing Stevie's earliest songs to his heyday.
Elton seems pretty done at this point, so I wouldn't judge his current work.
