How to check if your bank is financially healthy:
1. Is it FDIC insured? Be careful though - there are limits to what they cover.
2. Check its Texas ratio - this measures whether it has credit issues or not, e.g. NPLs.
3. There are websites that track banks’ health in the US. Just Google it.

What I’ve learnt as a personal finance journalist is to have emergency cash at home and an emergency fund account. If you don’t trust retail banks - and who does these days? - credit unions are a good option. Otherwise there is Revolut. And try to pay down/off your debt ASAP. Debt-free = freedom.
