Happy Friday, friends!
Where the heck did January go? We're already through the first month of 2026 -- crazy!
Here are the #moviereviews I posted earlier this month:

#PrimateMovie ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2: bit.ly/4q7iAFi
#28YearsLater The Bone Temple ⭐⭐⭐⭐: bit.ly/468uQOQ
#Shelter ⭐⭐⭐⭐: bit.ly/4rrEwwg

Statham movies in January are getting to be kind of a tradition. Two years ago, it was “The Beekeeper.” In 2026, it’s #Shelter and like “The Beekeeper,” it’s actually a pretty darned good action thriller. My review:

REVIEW: "Shelter" ⭐⭐⭐⭐ fbunplugged.substack.com/p/review-she...
REVIEW: "Shelter" ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Jason Statham's latest is a lean, gritty and surprising gripping survival thriller powered more by strong acting and emotion than by its well-staged action set pieces.

Really enjoyed #28YearsLater:TheBoneTemple — sure, it’s got plenty of the series’ distinctive suspense and hyper-violence, but all that just punctuates the stellar acting and direction going on here:

REVIEW: "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Director Nia DaCosta and writer Alex Garland deliver another powerful and occasionally hyper-violent and bloody trip into the world of the "Rage Virus."

Happy Friday, friends, and Happy New Year!

First review of 2026 is for #PrimateMovie from Paramount Pictures. This one’s definitely for the folks who love their horror films practical and gory!

Review: "Primate" ⭐⭐⭐1/2
Sometimes it's silly, and it's gory as hell, but boy, does "Primate" work.

"The Housemaid," starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Brandon Sklenar, is based on the 2022 best-selling novel by Freida McFadden. Loved the performances by all three leads in this one -- check out my review. #TheHousemaidMovie

REVIEW: "The Housemaid"
Director Paul Feig delivers another "gotcha" thriller with plenty of style and gusto thanks to his talented cast, but third-act missteps keep "The Housemaid" from sticking the landing.

"Avatar: Fire and Ash" is tracking for a $100M+ opening weekend in the U.S. Check out my review either before or after you see it! #AvatarFireAndAsh

REVIEW: "Avatar: Fire and Ash"
James Cameron delivers everything we've come to expect from his cinematic adventures on the world he created, Pandora. And when I say everything, I mean some of it is very "meh."

Both Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried deliver dynamic work, the performance I was most impressed by in #TheHousemaidMovie came from their co-star, Brandon Sklenar (“It Ends With Us”, “Drop”). My full review:

My main takeaway from #AvatarFireandAsh? If you loved the other ones, you’ll love this one.

Personally, I would have preferred to experience it as a 90 second ride at Disney World rather than a 195-minute film, but hey, that’s me.

Happy Saturday, friends!

Just one new review this week, but it’s for the film that’s shaping up to be one of the holiday season’s biggest — 5 stars for “Wicked: For Good”! Here’s why:

fbunplugged.substack.com/p/review-wic...
REVIEW: "Wicked: For Good" ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Director Jon M. Chu's conclusion to the "Wicked" saga is tighter, more intense, and ultimately just a teensy bit more satisfying than its predecessor, which was already pretty damn dazzling.

Two new reviews posted this week - get caught up now!

#Frankenstein, written and directed by Guillermo Del Toro, currently no. 1 on Netflix: bit.ly/4i1COhA
"Now You See Me Now You Don't," the 3rd film in the #NowYouSeeMe series: bit.ly/3JNLVFY
November 14, 2025 at 4:00 PM
Say what you want about the earlier #NowYouSeeMe films being all style and little substance — at least they were fun.

This new one, though? Not nearly as much, and in fact, rather uninspired. My spoiler-free review of “Now You See Me Now You Don’t”:

WATCH: Review of "Now You See Me Now You Don't"
The original Four Horsemen of the "Now You See Me" series are all back, but even with help from some new and very talented castmates can't make the magic work in this uninspired sequel.

Not sure how I feel about some of Guillermo Del Toro’s choices in how he adapts Mary Shelley’s classic tale for the big screen, but overall it’s a handsome and impressive effort. My spoiler-free review of #Frankenstein

fbunplugged.substack.com/p/watch-revi...
WATCH: Review of "Frankenstein"
While it's ponderous at times and takes some debatable liberties with its source, Guillermo Del Toro's new take on Shelley's Gothic tale of hubris and doomed romance is still an incredible film.

Check out my reviews for #PredatorBadlands starring Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, and #NurembergMovie, starring Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon, both new in theaters today:

Predator: Badlands: bit.ly/3Lqri2Z
Nuremberg: bit.ly/3XdIY4u
November 7, 2025 at 5:33 PM
#NurembergMovie features strong performances from Russell Crowe, Rami Malek, and Michael Shannon, but I have a feeling the film’s heavy-handedness is going to get in the way of a wider audience appreciating those performances. My full review:

fbunplugged.substack.com/p/watch-revi...
WATCH: Review of "Nuremberg"
Russell Crowe and Rami Malek deliver memorable turns both apart and together in James Vanderbilt's ambitious historical epic, but the film overall falls a little short of its loft aspirations.

A creative script, nuanced characters, and capable direction from "Predator" franchise veteran Dan Tractenberg come together in a thoroughly enjoyable sci-fi actioner low on tropes and high on fun.

Director Kathryn Bigelow delivers sprawling scope and engrossing tension, but the film ultimately fails to pay off its high stakes due to a structure that limits its potential impact.

As this is the last Sunday before #Halloween, this week's list is Halloween-themed, but it's not horror movies. Yup, here's 10 movies I'd rather watch on Halloween than be scared, 'cause I get scared easy. Feel free to laugh -- it's funny to me.
