Paris opens river Seine for public swimming for first time since 1923
Parisians rushed for a dip in the Seine on Saturday as the authorities opened the river to public swimming for the first time since 1923 after an extensive clean-up operation spurred on by it being used as a venue in the Paris Olympics.

Catching up with older podcasts, I really enjoyed @ddtru.bsky.social's interview and the many interesting details about Smyslov and the research on his #chess career www.perpetualchesspod.com/new-blog/202... His preference for natural, positional play is consistent with his restrained life somehow.

Congratulations to Gukesh - World Chess Champion.

Ding's play in the final game, particularly the decisive blunder on move fifty-five, looks like a kind of self-care.

I believe *at least part of him* wanted to lose the title, and that part of his psyche took control when he came under pressure.

Some are critical of the level of play in #dinggukesh but I found the match absolutely engrossing. The tight score kept building up the human drama of an 18yo that could not possibly be ready for such incredible pressure, and the Herculean struggle of a reeling world champion to find himself again

In thriller no. 13, Gukesh chose the variation associated with the first World Chess Champion, Steinitz, against the French Defense. I found the potential idea of a knight tour b1-c3-e2-f4-h5 to pressure Black's castled king quite wonderful. #DingGukesh

Struck by the number of references to #chess in Csikszentmihalyi's Flow. I am painfully aware of the distortion in the sense of time that he associates with the #flow state. www.harpercollins.com/products/flo...

Nice interview of GM Aagaard, who touches on adult chess improvement, including the critical ability to identify all options (candidate variations); his comment on how to become a faster runner (just high incline sprints) is obviously a gross oversimplification, so are his puzzles too hard too?
Chess Journeys: Tales of Adult Improvement - Ep. 104 GM Jacob Aagaard
