This is so sad and shocking! I’ve been a big fan since her SCTV days

Juliet, you deserve a Golden Globe for your dramatic reading of Trump’s message. If you don’t get one, you should no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Snark, although it will always be predominant

The DoJ doth protest too much

I think equipt, drilling, leases/land, & exploration costs - so real & paper losses by US companies. A fraction was perhaps recovered after decades of lawsuits. There’s a history there, but not to start a war AND it’s not worth American lives. Of course this is an attempt at cover for Trump.

Venezuela nationalized its oil industry in 1976 when a state-run company took over the assets of foreign (including American) oil companies. Trump is claiming to avenge the wrongs done to Exxon, Gulf, Mobil and others. Always looking out the the little guy Don!

Also, a blockade is an act of war.

Hey now, you have to recognize Wayne Gretzky and his multiple butchered pronunciations. I’m sure the people of North Mack-a-donia as well as Kur-a-ko would agree.

Preventative MRIs? Will we ALL have access to them under Trump’s new, beautiful, out any week now, “concepts of a” healthcare plan that will replace the ACA? Hmmm, probably not because Drs don’t order an MRI unless they’re looking for or are monitoring something. What’s the “something” Karoline?!?!

Who would have thought Javier Milei’s chainsaw would be a disaster for Argentina? Hopefully we can minimize the ongoing damage from Musk and Trump’s chainsaw

When will she skip to the part with the “Two Minutes Hate” when they rage against “The Brotherhood” and Emmanuel Goldstein?” All the pieces are already there

In his statement, it sounded like he thought SOME “mentally ill, homeless people” still deserved lethal injection and was wrong suggesting all deserved to die. This was not an apology.

Trump is totally alive and golfing today!

I interpret the Union Station takeover as the Fed’s/Trump taking on the contracting and development rights from the non-profit USRC

The already approved ~$9B Union Station Expansion Project includes air rights over the tracks in a massive real estate deal. This a huge grift opportunity for Trump!

The National Guard has its answer about what Trump thinks of them!

The lack of respect for sacrificing time away from their jobs and families. They need to explore every avenue to retire, quit, or slow walk performing tasks.

They did not sign up for this. Trump is disrespecting them!
August 27, 2025 at 4:14 PM
(3 of 3) Reporters should ask:
-Are taxpayers now on the hook for the full expansion cost?
-Will this project now be delayed?
-How will this arrangement resemble Trump’s takeover of Penn on NYC?
-What role will the Fed’s play in current lease management?

This is another grift, not about safety!

(2 of 3) As I understand, the Union Station Redevelopment Corporation (USRC) will select the developers, vendors, and partners. That’s what the Real Estate Developer-in-Chief wants — the spoils of a project he had no part in creating.

(1 of 3) This is takeover of a non-profit responsible for an approved, massive development project. An important element is an “air rights” phase where multiple city blocks above the tracks will be developed. Historical renovation of the main is largely done.

Beware! The Deep State is funded by a shadowy organization called “The Wawa.” It’s headed up by the notorious duo of Jimmy John and Jersey Mike.

Well done NYT! You gave an authoritarian the iconic photo he wanted.

Instead, you could publish photos of clueless cross-agency patrols in Georgetown being laughed at by residents who are enjoying al fresco dining.
August 13, 2025 at 4:30 PM
Very cowardly writing! You eventually note MAYBE there’s no “there” there and these “investments” make the US look desperate. But still pander with “art of the deal” bs and never really note the tariffs are too high, vague, pointless and not approved by Congress. These. are. not. real. trade. deals.
August 4, 2025 at 10:30 PM
I think we’re way beyond words like “echos.” This is how authoritarians manipulate information and data, period! I’m glad he was so blatant so we know not to trust labor data anymore.
August 3, 2025 at 8:32 PM
Healthcare is a longtime driver of jobs, so that’s not a big surprise. I agree about the real world, that’s why reporters need to ask questions about the composition of the population used. Are sizable job loss segments being under represented and growth segments over represented? Show us the math!
July 3, 2025 at 6:49 PM
A good NYT reporter might ask questions about the Current Population Survey administrated by the US Census and how the Bureau of Labor Statistics is weighting its sample.
July 3, 2025 at 2:59 PM
ADP largely analyzes the payroll data of their clients. As largest payroll, administrator, they have a good cross-section of the private sector. The Feds use the monthly Current Population Survey that includes questions about household employment across all sectors.
