“Cost of an Hospitalized Body”
Acrylic on canvas, 100×75 cm.
#Painting Selected for the Joaquín Clausell Biennial.
Each 10 mm square = 1 USD of the 4,941 my first hospital stay cost. Up close it’s pure expense; from afar, my body built from the price of staying alive.

Weeks before going blind from my tumor, I dreamed of #painting this. A friend mentioned a healer in the mountains of Jalisco. The Image on the map was the same temple from my dream. We went. I slept. The next day, I could see again. Later I found the tarot’s Four of Swords: a forced rest.

This Land is For Sale
Acrylic, 2024

This painting was inspired by the commodification of land. Based on a photograph I took of my parents while speaking with a land seller, it represents a pivotal decision that ultimately led me into debt for a piece of land just 25 minutes from my hometown.

This painting is inspired by an X-ray I received in 2022, during a time when I was experiencing significant back pain due to SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy).
