Well, time to start setting up shop for real away from Twitter - used to be fperez_org there, used it a lot as a science feed and community building tool, til the Musk purchase.

Went quiet since but hadn't fully moved on; the election seems like a good time to shut the curtains and move.

Imagine, just for a moment, a climate future where the facts cannot be deleted...

If that sounds like an ideal future for you and/or your family make sure to check out our website (Climate.us) and give us a follow on our social media accounts.

honestly I don't really mind writing the 15 page research summary (though 10 pages would be better for both writing and reviewing). It is, inter alia, a helpful conduit to plan out a project.

What kills me is the extra week(!) filling in tabs in research.gov, and ...

the amount of time we spend trying to raise $$$ for our research is absolutely immense and results in a huge amount of wasted time. BUT there is a limited amount of money, so they have to have some method of distributing it. not sure what the best way to do it is.

She's also committed to education and inspiring the next generation of scientists. She has volunteered to be a guest lecturer in several of my courses, and it will be a treat this year to have her discuss her work with my students in Stat159, who will then work on reproducing some of her research!

In 2023, she led NASA, then federal agencies, to make public, coordinated commitments to open science that were incredibly well thought out.

While open.science.gov doesn't resolve now, it was an example of how to guide policy to benefit all of science and society.

Huge congratulations to NASA's @cgentemann.bsky.social for the #AGU2025 Open Science Recognition Prize!!! 🎉🎊🚀

Chelle has been a steadfast leader in open science, from data, to code, infrastructure, policy and education.

This could not be more highly deserved!

Please share with anyone who cares about NSF support for graduate students and take 30 seconds to sign and leave a comment.

The deadline for the 2025 Graduate Research Fellowship Program is about one month away and literally no one can apply. #NSFGRFP

Is scale all you need? Or is there still a role for incorporating domain knowledge and inductive bias? While I was in Heidelberg, I took some time to write a short essay on this question called "The Bittersweet Lesson".

I'm very excited to introduce P3D: our PDE-Transformer architecture in 3 dimensions by . Demonstrated for unprecedented 512^3 resolutions! That means the Transformer produces over 400 million degrees of freedom in one go 😀 a regime that was previously out of reach: arxiv.org/abs/2509.10186

Day 2 of the #GeoJupyter #Hackathon is under way at DSE (@schmidtdse.bsky.social)! Groups will gather and define challenges. The fun comes in when we start talking about solutions – thinking about tools and looking at other communities for inspiration 🤔💡

BTW, the train staff did the best they could in a difficult situation they were put in by @Amtrak. Those folks sitting in an office could have easily averted this mess, but chose not to.

You might want to talk to the coach passengers and Amtrak officials about the new "California Heat Stroke and Famine Express" experience!

Great way to revitalize interest in train travel!

. @DenverChannel @Amtrak @AmtrakCouncil, the Zephyr 6 arriving in Denver (ETA 9:47pm) is carrying coach cars full of people w/o adequate food since CA. Went to NV desert without AC and there's no Cafeteria car. A baby had to be evacuated into an ambulance at Winnemucca!

Zines are a great tool for science communication. Earlier this year, I put one together with @kiricarini.com of @developmentseed.org.

The zine provides a visually interesting jumping off point for folks learning cloud-native geospatial data!

"A zine exploring common formats"
"Development Seed"

Not at all a coincidence that this type of clean-energy comms - which presents a positive case in forceful terms rather than trying to dance around the issue - is coming almost exclusively from non-US firms. The comparison tells us a lot about why the IRA failed. More below:
