Used to! These days it's mostly for people churning out 60 lasercut ornaments an hour or less technically inclined artists who p much just use it as a storefront and do their promotions elsewhere. It's useful but more flea market than high-end gallery now, I wouldn't try selling oil paintings there

Can't comment on vgen, commishes, or skeb because I'm not a vtuber, furry artist, or Japanese, respectively. once Etsy worked pretty well, if you build an online art fair and present it to buyers that way they will come! they're just increasingly dropshipper-oriented and nothing else filled the void

the conversion rate of twitter views to actual sales is orders of magnitude worse than putting your stuff literally anywhere else - not even just for artists, this was pretty well documented common knowledge when I was doing corp marketing. If you're putting your stuff all over anyway it's free, but

their plan was to be socialist Patreon/substack from the outset and they just sorta fell backwards into all the blogging stuff people used along the way. it's not clear that it was ever a GOOD plan, but they'd been working at a solution for filling that niche for years and eventually ran out of time
