Taiwan relies on imports for about 96% of its energy (2023).
This map highlights the main suppliers of fossil fuels used for power generation:
Australia: 50% of coal, 40% of gas
Qatar: 28% of gas
United States: 27% of gas, 9% of oil
Saudi Arabia: 31% of crude oil
Indonesia: 25% of coal

"A grid-aware website responds to the cleanliness or dirtiness of a user’s electricity grid, i.e. whether it's currently using more renewable energy or fossil fuels."

For more on this, also check out issue 9 of Branch magazine (by the Green Web Foundation): branch.climateaction.tech/issues/issue...

This is not CSS grid-aware, but energy grid-aware websites. Websites that respond to the “cleanliness” of the user’s local electricity grid. A very interesting read and concept.

Great point on strategic sneakiness of scale.

The bigger the phenomenon, the smaller the impact any *individual* act seemingly has.

A perfect way to devolve responsibility to individual scales & dismiss individual acts as insignificant.

It’s scale *creators* who have real power & responsibility.

Google's claim that each AI prompt uses the energy of 9 seconds of television is like throwing dispersant over an oil slick.

The only way to get a number that low is with massive scale, which you should definitely worry about. medium.com/@dnafus/why-...
