Why doesn’t Canada produce more spy novels? The pub industry is certainly interested in genre fiction — horror being a big one. And Canada has over the years produced writers of espionage fiction. However these latter set elsewhere.

Expect a "revolt" among 60 Minutes staff over Bari Weiss pulling the CECOT segment at the last minute, one network insider told me.

Another CBS News reporter added that a Rubicon had been crossed with this decision, which 60 Minutes correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi called "political" and not editorial.

Are Canadians naive about geopolitics because their fiction publishing industry shies away from this topic? In other words, does Canadian literature need more novels about the machinations of power?

If you’re Canadian and know a little bit about D-Day including famous commanders like Eisenhower, Bradley, Patton, Montgomery, and Rommel, you probably don’t know the names of any Canadian commanders.

Is there a problem with recent generations of boys — especially nerdy boys who are intellectually inclined — losing interest in books? And is literary publishing’s choices a factor?

On D-Day, Major-General Rod Keller commanded the 3rd Canadian Infantry Division, which landed on Juno Beach. His division achieved one of the most successful Allied landings, advancing farther inland than any other force on D-Day despite heavy resistance:

Canadian literature has many novels about WWI, but noticeably few about WWII. Why? More: Cdns tend to be woefully ignorant of the specifics of Canada’s history in both wars.

The comments this video is getting on YouTube are telling: the Canadians angry at the hypocrisy and/or selective memory of several US administrations, and an American condemning the Canadian commentators as “sanctimonious”.

I was in high school when this happened, and truly did not have any inkling that I would become a lawyer (much less a law prof), but do remember thinking how bizarre this was.
25 years ago today, SCOTUS elected George W Bush president of the United States by blocking completion of a voting canvass in Florida. A subsequent canvass by the Associated Press showed that Bush's rival, Al Gore, had won the race in Florida—and thus the contest for the presidency—by 700 votes.
