And I live there. It's also my academic area of study. You're right that they shouldn't be compared, since they have completely different histories, geographies, etc. But also, you're still wrong about multiculturalism here, both in SK's status and in its effects.

They serve fixed terms, staggered so that each president will always have some appointments they can make, while others were made by political predecessors.

Multiculturalism is not the problem ~ SK is also multicultural, but has a lot more practice with protest and a lot more recent memory of life without democracy

Rather, citizens of South Korea care more about democracy, in part because there is living memory of life under dictatorship here

Oh, they actually did drag their feet - we were actually hoping for a verdict sooner, but rumor is that a) they wanted a unanimous verdict and b) there's timing considerations around other politicians with trials coming up

I think that really depends on what they meant by "all Americans know this painting" because I didn't remember this painting at all. Following everyone else's "this was in my middle school textbook" comments, I mustered a very vague recollection. So, yeah but nah.
