Batch #2 is a Roasted Strawberry Buttermilk, straight from the Jeni’s cookbook. Flavor is pretty good, but had an issue with cornstarch clumping into chunks in the final product. Would definitely use less next time.

Batch 1: Meyer Lemon Crunch. Jeni’s standard ice cream base with Meyer Lemon Cookies. Super tasty, and wasn’t too hard to put together. 😋

Usually these experiments don’t pan out, either because they’re much higher effort for the reward. However, I think this next act is going to work. I bought an ice cream maker and a Jeni’s ice cream cookbook, and I’m going to make treats from it until i can’t stand ice cream anymore (unlikely)

For example, for the last couple of years around the holidays, I’ve been making fish and chips and mushy peas from scratch as a family meal.

Some context, my wife @ihearttheroad.bsky.social is an amazing baker/cook, and I’ve been trying to pull my weight in the kitchen for awhile now. I have terrible cooking instincts, but I’m always threatening to try to pick up one thing or another.

I haven’t done any significant social media in _years_, but I wanted to take this summer on this new platform to try to talk about two things, making ice cream while the baby sleeps, and the current sad state of parental leave in the US.
