In the United Kingdom none of the official VE Day commemoration events this year even mention the liberation of prisoners of war. The only commemoration is being organised by a small charity, ‘The Online Memorial and Museum of Prisoners of War’.

VE Day
There will undoubtedly be many fine speeches delivered by important people on 8th May this year, but will the Kings, the Presidents, the Prime Ministers and politicians mention – or pay any tribute to – that huge number of prisoners of war who fought, but then suffered years of imprisonment?

The UK Conservative Party’s support for a petition for another general election now is a nonsense. The government is less than 5 months into a 5 year term of office with 410 seats in Parliament to the Conservatives’ 119. What do they expect after such a short time? Proper results take a lot longer.

When I make a comment to someone's post, I can never see my comment. Can anyone tell me how I can do this? I never know if my comment has been sent/received or not.

Myeloma is an incurable disease, though treatable. My father died of it in 1970 at the age of 60 – no treatment then. I’m luckier, receiving excellent treatment and at the moment life goes on almost as normal. For anyone affected I recommend www.myeloma.org.uk.

Lots of commemorations for VE day 80 next year, but they always forget about the prisoners of war. Huge numbers of them were liberated after appalling experiences, but they too often remain just footnotes in history. www.prisonersofwarmuseum.com
