I think I finally figured out the first place I heard about Burning Man. buffy the Vampire Slayer, season 2 episode 1. (Why yes I am rewatching the series) That would have been a pretty damn obscure reference at the time.

First thunderstorm of the year, and the dogs are already over it. Also, why are we getting a thunderstorm in the middle of March? At noon? It's weird, man.

It's unfortunate that liberal/NDP basically split the opposition vote in my riding, and the not great conservative candidate got back in again. Also ...dammit why did we let Ford get in again. Sigh.
