You have to wonder if they actually did this on purpose.

That being said, I'm glad he's finally come around to the same realization the rest of us have -- the rich have vacuumed up so much of the money that they're the only ones left to tax. "Broaden the base", Republicans used to say -- good luck trying to squeeze blood from that stone.

Means testing social security creates a negative investment incentive. Why would you max your 401k if that means throwing away your social security?

"But those kids are rich, why do they get free stuff??"

They don't, they paid for it with property taxes. They probably paid more, even, if they're rich.

Just relax about rich people getting universal benefits. Everyone deserves to eat, to ride the bus, to have health care. Everyone.

I'm under no delusions that things will suddenly get better, but he is uniquely suited to making things worse every single day. Those who will replace him aren't as good at that.

I would get rid of left turn on green before right turn on red. Virginia has been replacing this with "left turn on flashing yellow arrow", but it's still terrible at intersections with awful sightlines.

I'm not here for satisfaction, I just want relief.

What I like about Nate's argument is that it justifies taxing the hell out of the rich. They'll just become millionaires again! Easy.

Just remember my "ignore whitespace changes" setting. Fixed.

Nah, if Bernie's M4A passed, then Bernie would still be president today. We get there by stopping the fearmongering and starting the implementation.
December 12, 2025 at 2:01 AM
We don't need to tax billionaires 90% to achieve M4A, we are ALREADY PAYING all of this money to our insurance companies, plus all of their profits. M4A is cheaper than private insurance.

Yes, I'd love to pay more taxes and stop paying my insurance premiums and deductibles. I don't know where you're getting this standard deduction nonsense from; Medicaid taxes bypass deductions other than contributions to HSA/FSA.

I would assume that hospitals that take Medicare now would continue to take M4A, and those that don't, won't.

I would also assume that the people running Medicare now would continue to run M4A. I imagine there would be some openings, and also former insurance employees to fill them.

Sounds pretty normal if you're drinking water throughout the day.
