Behind these compelling blue stripes lies a wake-up call.

🌊🐟 The stripes represent the decline in marine biodiversity since 1970. Developed by @findingnature.bsky.social @derbyuni.bsky.social.

Are we forgetting nature? Michael speaks with Prof. Miles Richardson @findingnature.bsky.social , whose research shows a 60% drop in our connection to nature since 1800. They explore why children are growing up without a bond to the natural world.

Fascinating study by @findingnature.bsky.social argues that lack of nature connectedness is “a key root of the environmental crisis” and finds around 60% decline in use of “nature words” in books between 1800 and 2020 #slowmemory

What if it were possible to simulate how generations lost their connection to nature?

My latest research does just that and it matched the decline in the use of nature words since 1800. Summary and links to full paper: findingnature.org.uk/2025/08/11/m...

Vital new research on how we lost connection with nature … the extinction of experience over generations …

Shocking but perhaps unsurprising finding by @findingnature.bsky.social that human connection to nature has declined precipitously. This is bad for our health and for the preservation of nature. The solution? Regreen, and take your kids outside. 🧪

Even a 1000% increase in urban greening by 2050 wasn’t enough to reverse the disconnection from nature caused by the ten-fold increase in urbanisation since 1800: findingnature.org.uk/2025/08/11/m...

Nature words in books have declined by 60% since 1800 and a model simulating over 200 years of human–nature relationships in an increasingly urban world accurately mirrors that decline.

What happens when it runs through to 2125?
