Glad you posted a photo of just her (including mascara-stained tears). This was all her, world-famous beefcake boyfriend notwithstanding.

And I watched both races twice, and still don't understand how she won. As you mentioned, Kok looked sooo much smoother.

But I feel less cringe when listening to Daydream Nation than when listening to Meat Is Murder, two albums that formed my musical tastes

He failed as a human being and as an admirer of Sonic Youth music that hurts and disappoints me

On moral, ethical, and philosophical grounds you are totally right. That doesn’t mean that Grady (and I as well fwiw) can’t be thoroughly impressed by the technology. And you call it slop, but I’m old enough to remember when greybeards yelled at the quality of the assembly generated by compilers

And I don't think he meant it in a disapproving way. I honestly think he had never come into contact with a black person and he was *obviously* aware of the difference in appearance between "us" and "them". But it's hard to say what actually went through his head. It was probably 1978, and I was 12.

... one day he came by our house when my grandparents were staying at our house. As was his custom the black guy kissed my mom on the cheek. They discussed whatever he was there for, and he left. And my grandfather, born in 1906, asks my mom: "doesn't that stain, when he does that?" He really did 2/

Counterpoint: I grew up in a western European country in what in hindsight was a hingepoint in history- when I was born there were hardly any PoC in the communities my parents and I lived, and now obviously there are. My parents were friendly with the one and only Black person in our town and ... 1/

This…. Is a form of entitlement I can’t say I’d ever seen before

I don’t understand that man. I’m roughly his age but hope I’m aging with a bit more grace. It’s all hideous- the hair, the sunglasses, now the moustache apparently. And then we’re not even talking about the music

Here in Southern Ontario corner lot people usually start off full of vim and vigour in December, but by the end of January everybody, and especially the corner people, is so tired of this shit that the corners become death zones from both sides

Did they not listen to your rant at the start of the video? That's unfortunate because that's Dijkstra memo level stuff. Computer Science historians will be using that to determine Why Rust Failed in 2045.

I recently spoke to a friend who works in the public library industry and he says that cutting of spines happens to every single book in their system. Books get rebound and the original cover get put on the new binding.

So "Oh no they're cutting the spines" is faux outrage IMHO

Does your research say if “goon” comes from “goonda” or the other way around? Or is there a shared root?

C++ has a bad rep but a lot of that is caused by a committee that doesn't understand that people just want to write code and are not interested in the absolute correct description of the feature

cppreference is written by people that hate our cognitive processes. Everything sucks- navigation, layout, font, and most of all language used.

I remember spending an hour to try to parse the std::forward entry and giving up. Then 3 months later I realized what it's for by myself

I stand corrected. My lack of knowledge of Canadian popular culture from "before my time" is appaling.
