“Power is of two kinds. One is obtained by the fear of punishment and the other by acts of love. Power based on love is a thousand times more effective and permanent then the one derived from fear of punishment.”

It cannot be made clearer.

Where will the employment adviser advise them to work? In the many accessible employment opportunities that currently exist? The job market is also terrible just now so I’m not even sure what that adviser would be recommending!

I mean, at least they’re putting themselves all over the global news with their anti-American assault on truth so it should be easy enough to prosecute those responsible… if the courts last that is seeing as the US under Trump sanctioned the judges of the ICJ

But this then negates human history and its obsession with symbolism to make meaning

So my point is, flags as a whole can be racist, they can be political, they can be symbols of hate but they can also be reclaimed. If it’s left in the hands of racists, it remains a racist tool but it doesn’t have to be. Or we can just accept that all flags are bad and get rid of them..
finl3y.bsky.social
So my point is, people ascribe meanings to flags for all sorts of reasons and if people are prepared to denounce a flag because some people have used it as a racist symbol, we can also argue about how flags are symbols of nationalism which are historically racist across the board.

The reason I bought up the Palestinian flag is sadly, where that flag belongs brings specific political connotations. Not just for Jews, but Palestinians too. In that region it is associated with very specific things and yet here people have decided what it represents which is entirely inappropriate

This crank ain’t new. They’ve been saying this for more than a decade. They’re obsessed with LGBT people… and you know what they say about ladies that protest too much…

Yet another dead kid because politicians think they understand their lives better than they do. Disgusting.
finl3y.bsky.social
I wonder how many people complaining about flags here have been waving the Palestinian flag at protests or whacked them in their profile picture. It’s either flags or no flags folks, you can’t pick and choose which flags are meaningful when flags are ascribed meanings from all sorts of camps
finl3y.bsky.social
I think the problem is most of us remember it being used as a racist symbol. Certainly where I grew up it was a certain kind of person who did that but I agree with the sentiment that if people want to wave a flag, it needs to be inclusive and not part of a hostile act.

Labour only works when it’s a broad church. Even Blair listened to the left of the party - he may not have agreed but he did actually communicate with everyone. This leadership is failing because it only wants to serve one part of the party.

Monstrous.

"federal agents detained nearly every resident of the 130-unit building—including children and babies—placing them in zip ties and separating them by race into vans for more than two hours early Tuesday morning."

Good reporting on the South Shore raid from South Side weekly here.

Confirms one thing I was told but didn't put in my own piece because I didn't have a second source and it seemed too insane: border agents segregated arrested residents by race

What’s truly evil is watching these women negate thousands of years of human history by declaring other human beings as evil. What’s really evil is doing what you can to endanger other people purely because you have the ick about a tiny minority. Hateful.

I digest news in an unhealthy fashion and yet I have a balanced view of what’s going on. I have not seen news that isn’t showing the horrors of Gaza. Not at all.

It’s true, yet it doesn’t absolve antisemites of culpability. Jews in the diaspora aren’t all affiliated with Israel. It’s like saying we should expect attacks on Muslims for the crimes in Saudi Arabia. Israel is the only nation people use as a caveat when diaspora communities are attacked
finl3y.bsky.social
It’s funny you say that because my experience is the only voices given any validity thanks to social media are the voices of Palestinians - however its not their voices being represented, it’s a lot of westerners who are using the extremely valid Palestinian cause as a shield for other things.
finl3y.bsky.social
What are the reasons? That a foreign autocratic government that is out of control is ensuring Jews in the diaspora are being murdered? Not that there’s a culture of antisemitism that is quite embedded in communities which gets inflamed when there’s an excuse?
finl3y.bsky.social
The only thing I will concede is the right wing press have weaponised antisemitism. However, it doesn’t negate the rise of antisemitism which is largely ignored by left wing progressives across the board. Islamophobia has also risen and if you can’t fight both, you don’t help either community
