No joke, when SMRPG first came out, I had no clue you were supposed to talk to Toad at the very beginning. I remember walking by him constantly and being confused as to why I couldn't do anything. I looked at the manual and it said talk to everyone and so I did. So this was probably made for me.

Ooh, I just did a Longplay of this version... kinda. Ive been playing Duck Kickem 3D since its original release and the N64 controls did not agree with me. Thankfully, there's a PC port. Its played and done, just holding onto it till I decide to renovate my channel.
