In January I took my 7 week old in to her pediatrician for respiratory symptoms and got a $345 bill months later for a flu/covid/RSV test, because I didn't realize I had to specifically request that the doc send the sample out to a particular lab covered by her insurance instead of their default.
After her daughter wouldn’t stop crying, Maggi Wettstein took her to the emergency room. But as they waited, the toddler stopped crying and seemed fine, so they left without seeing a doctor.

About eight months later, they got a bill for the visit.
A toddler was tested for covid and flu at an ER. The bill was $445.
During the ER visit, the child never made it beyond the waiting room.
