Yep re the elephants—mostly though not always spouted by non-programmers panting to fire ppl. (Similar bullshit for decades re automation replacing sw testers.) I think some ppl fail to grasp just how pervasive & essential we’ve made complex software and how dangerous failures or hacks could be.

When we lived in Toronto around Christie & Davenport—not suburbs, central city FFS!—the official crosswalks were notorious death-traps. I narrowly avoided being hit several times only by being ultra cautious & prepared to run/jump back.
