A digital ID can be convenient yes. Unfortunately many digital ID systems aren't designed with privacy in mind, even EU eIDAS. Another privacy-related issue is a possible increase in the number of places you'll have to use your ID as it'll be easier (eg, creating an account online).

hmm, that's where I'm glad to self host my own server. A bit unfortunate the folks on matrix.org homeserver had 2 days of downtime for now.
