Destiny was announced back in 1996. It went quiet as M$ bought BUNGiE at the time and made Halo instead. When BUNGiE left M$, Destiny was announced again and they did extensive vlogs about how the game came about many years prior to Halo.

The original Destiny was in production from 1996 and was released in 2011, that's 15 years. The campaign was only 4hrs long. GTA VI has been in development for about 13 years. Star Citizen started back in 2011, I think. But the sheer size of the game now, it's crazy!

Squadron 42, their other game in development, will be released close to the end of next year. That's set in the Star Citizen universe and is a single player experience story driven game with actors like @markhamillofficial.bsky.social , Gillian Anderson and Gary Oldman.

Star Citizen is still in development but there is so much you can do in the game it's crazy. I think the game will eventually realise in 2028. To play test you just need a game package which will cost £50, or about that. You can play as much as you like.
