Holly scratches, ivy burns, pine trees leave used needles all over the house, chestnuts are spiky, poinsettias are toxic, the Christmas cactus isn't even a cactus, yew got Boudicca killed, and don't get me started on mistletoe (parasite, date rape apologist, implicated in the Baldr shooting)

Pac, Snoop and Em all fall out and start dissing each other within 4 months

Fascinating alternate universe

John Cena has gone on record as saying his favourite rapper is Canibus.

YEAH THIS IS WHAT I MEAN. I mean absolutely no hate to John Darnelle at all, the lyric is lovely in context, but if THAT'S your pick for why he's one of the greats then I'm baffled

This is a widely acknowledged problem but definitely not one I expected to learn 50 CENT was insecure about
fireh9lly.bsky.social
I remember seeing 50 Cent on his web show admitting he hates looking at his lyrics sheets when he's working on them because almost everybody's lyrics look terrible and embarrassing written down. Then he grabs a mic and rhymes "pimp" with "limp" and it sounds cool because he's 50 Cent

I think people who are in love are the most easy people to impress with bullshit lyrics because their entire thinking revolves around who they are in love with so all you need to do is write "love comes down from above out of the sky like a dove" and people will go THIS IS ABOUT MEEEE

The point where someone screenshotted a hideously insipid, sub-Taylor love lyric from John Darnelle, a man who has written good and emotionally affecting songs about a washed up pro wrestler dying on the floor of a prison, caused me to decide this thread is not worth engaging with

I think Lorde is still relevant! And Lana

This combined with Bloomberg posting this terrifying graph convinced me to withdraw all the money in my stocks and shares ISA. I'm giving it a few months

This is funny because it's a great song but a very bad and embarrassing video

Charli and Kendrick recently became way more relevant than ever before without ever going away in the interim... The only high profile irrelevant Millennial pop stars are Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne and maybe Adele. We do not have a Millennial relevance crisis

Beyoncé and unfortunately Kanye have stayed relevant for longer than Taylor. Rihanna is still relevant even though she barely makes music any more. Bieber and Gaga are still winning awards and Drake is still relevant even though he very, very, very publicly ate a whole triple course meal of shit.

Is this really true though

A Saturday morning cartoon where Taylor helps some diverse kids learn lessons about road safety... High quality Taylor Swift cat food with psychotic-looking packaging... A Taylor Swift theme park where you can ride on the A Kind Of Rush rollercoaster and drink tea that smells like Christmas

Taylor knitwear entrepreneur arc 🥺

Folkmore-only Swifties rank below even Gaylors, who are well meaning queer kids going through it and at least enjoyable to make fun of because they believe an objectively funny thing. Folkmoreists don't deserve to love a pop star and couldn't bring themselves to anyway
fireh9lly.bsky.social
I'm thinking of that insufferable Swiftie fan club posho they had on the news when the album came out who found it "disappointing" because there was "a lot of modern references" (I guess the 50 Cent shout-out?)

For my money the thing that led to this situation was Folklore/Evermore suddenly making her "credible" to a lot of pseudointellectuals who suddenly were no longer fooled when she was doing the same tricks over synths
fireh9lly.bsky.social
Outside of the more naive writing from her very early career, Taylor's lyrics have always been overwritten sixth form poetry filled with outdated Tumblr jargon. How much of this is just her overexposure leading to her getting exposed to new fans realising who she always was and deciding she changed?
fireh9lly.bsky.social
Meanwhile Taylor continues to write and record music, a thing core to her persona that has almost no commercial value any more, and THIS IS considered to be the essence of greed? There's stuff on TLOAS that I wish wasn't on it, but absolutely nothing on TLOAS that feels like "good enough" chumbucket
fireh9lly.bsky.social
A thing I really dislike about this take is that if Taylor was just being greedy she has better ways of doing it than releasing music. People certainly got upset by Rihanna becoming a makeup brand, Dr. Dre shilling headphones, Gaga doing films, but I can't recall anyone calling them "greedy" for it

Appalling. I propose deleting each artist's three good albums and then seeing what happens

Reminds me of this excellent sign that I saw at the Tubman African American Museum in Macon, Georgia.
Piano, which once belonged to Little Richard, with a sign on it saying "Do not attempt to play Little Richard's piano. He will know."
