49 YEARS AGO

Yesterday, we were 'reunited' with the @Lionesses 1st ever trophy - Pony Home International Trophy

In May 1976 I was made captain, we won 2 games to win this trophy

Aged 20, I had the honour of lifting this trophy. I will confess to a moist eye yesterday

Women's Football goes national as I was interviewed by Selina Scott of BBC Breakfast Show following the EURO defeat the previous day

A major step in the history of the game, bringing the game from regional TV news bulletins into the nations homes

The senior @Lionesses played Sweden in the 2nd leg of the 1st ever EURO competition final for women at Kenilworth Road, Luton

I led them to a 1-0 victory but we eventually lost to them 4-3 on penalties🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️😭

In this year of the #25WEURO's, 12th May 1984 - 41 years ago - the @Lionesses played in the 1st leg of the inaugural Women's EURO Final v. Sweden in Gothenburg

Captaining a brilliant @Lionesses side we lost 1-0 setting up a tense return leg 2 weeks later in London

Today marks the 40th anniversary of my 50th appearance for the @Lionesses

I led out them out (my 45th time) v Scotland in the 85/87 EURO's & my 2nd EURO's. We won 4-0 at Deepdale, Preston N.E. & I had the privilege of having my 50th cap presented to me by Sir Tom Finney

I was presented with the Vaux Brewery Silver Star Award by the Northern Sports Editors & Reporters for successes in Women's Football

Humbled to be able to chat with many stars of the era, Hullensian - Karen Briggs, Bob Paisley, Seb Coe, Steve Cram & many, many others

Flew from Heathrow Fri 25th, 1pm, played Sat & returned to Heathrow Sun 27th Feb, 1pm - 48 hours!

Monday morning back at work behind my desk!

Just watching #Its v #Wal game from the Stadio Olimpico & I just realised that I led the @Lionesses in there for the 3rd time v. #Ita in June 1976 in aid of the Flood Relief Funds, sadly we lost 2-0

Such an honour, somewhat overwhelming, competing against some of the most iconic women in British sports

Filmed the previous Sept alongside a men's event including the likes of Ian Botham, etc

Ooooo ..... my latest read has dropped through the letter box

It was great to contribute & collaborate with @claremcwrites.bsky.social on the time that covered my era & looking forward to getting into it
