1/ 🌱 Sensory burnout is real.
It’s not just being “tired”—it’s a full-body shutdown from too much sensory input, too much masking, too little recovery. Let’s talk about it. 🧵👇

If you’re an autistic woman, you’ve probably heard this (or worse). Let’s talk about the myths, the realities, and why these stereotypes are harmful. 🧵👇

Understanding neurodiversity means recognizing that neurological differences like autism, ADHD, and dyslexia are natural variations of the human experience, not deficits. Embracing these differences fosters a more inclusive society. #Neurodiversity101

There’s no such thing as “high-functioning.” There’s only how well someone is able to mask and suppress their needs until they burn out. If someone looks like they’re doing fine, ask what it’s costing them.

Late autism diagnosis is like being handed the map after you’ve walked through the forest. Suddenly, everything makes sense. But it also means grieving the years you were lost and blamed yourself for it.

I don’t want to “overcome” autism. I want to overcome ableism. I want to overcome the constant pressure to conform, to translate, to dilute myself to be more palatable. Autistic joy, autistic connection, autistic creativity—these are things worth protecting. - Bridgette

You know what’s exhausting? Pretending to be someone else just to be seen as “professional.” Masking is labor. Constant social self-monitoring is labor. Surviving in a world not made for your brain is labor. And we’re tired.

Being autistic doesn’t mean I experience “too much.” It means I experience deeply. That’s not a flaw. That’s a way of being in the world with intensity, richness, and detail that many never notice. And sometimes, yes—it’s overwhelming. But it’s also beautiful. -Bridgette

There are autistic people in their 60s, 70s, 80s, and beyond who spent most of their lives without knowing they were autistic. They lived without community, language, or support. Their stories matter.

Sensory trauma is real. It’s what happens when our nervous systems are repeatedly overwhelmed by noise, light, touch, smell, or movement—and we’re not believed or supported. This kind of trauma builds slowly, quietly, and often invisibly. But the impact? Deep and lasting.

1/ Last week, my LinkedIn account was suspended without warning.
The reason? “Spam.”
I post original neurodiversity advocacy content, not spam.
But I do post a lot—because I’m autistic, and this is how I communicate.
Let’s talk about algorithmic ableism.

8/ If you have connections at LinkedIn, please boost this. If you’ve experienced anything similar, I’d love to hear from you. This is cruel, and I refuse to accept it quietly.
