it's called fashion, look it up

(not my photo, unfortunately - thumbnail stolen from a website that my firewall won't let me open fully, haha)

Last but not least, Epicatanthe Volcano Trick wearing a fiery evening gown.

This was the queen of show & tell. This Cattleya had four HUGE flowers that smelled absolutely incredible. The ruffles & substance of the petals and sepals were so decadent. BUT...I think the club member has the label wrong, because this is not what comes up when I search Laeliocattleya Sunset View.

This is Dendrobium Australian 'Robbie McInnes' (I think I've copied that right). It was so vigorous and cool looking, and I like how Dendrobiums like to be neglected over the winter.

I'm bad at Cattleya orchids, but whenever I see a plant like this it renews my courage to try. The flowers are just spectacular. This is Rlc. Rubescence x Rth. Martha Clarke.

Check out this grocery store phal! It had no tag but the flowers were peloric in a way I've never seen before, and many of them had 8 or 9 petals and sepals. Crazy complex flowers.

This is Paphiopedilum Memoria 'Brittany Marie Nowicki'. Not sure what's so spectacular about miss Brittany that she needed all three honorifics, but the flower was pretty.

You've seen this one already on my profile, but I had to show off my Phalaenopsis sanderiana again in full bloom.

These disappointingly small flowers are from my Dossinia marmorata var. dayii. I wanted to let the spike grow so that I could witness the flowers, but...they're so forgettable that I chopped the spike off.

This is Rhynchostylis gigantea, from the Vanda tribe. The leaves are thick like a leather belt and the flowers have a really fun complex scent, like men's cologne. Ron Burgundy would love this orchid.

Last night was the Spokane Orchid Society's monthly meeting, which means that today is your lucky day to tour highlights from the show-and-tell! It was a very impressive floral display for midwinter, with dozens of plants in spectacular bloom, only some of which are here.

Uhhh...what if I'm a fish biologist working in the logging industry? Seems bad. 🐟

Check out these midwinter lithophytic lichens from yesterday where the sun melted the snow off a rock near Council, Idaho. I would love a rug that looked like this.

The Little Colorado - a river lost to climate change and land abuse that occasionally rears its zombie head in an astonishing rush of erosion and debris.

Laura & I went to a tea party at the library to celebrate Jane Austen, who had her 250th birthday last month. We were the only ones dressed up, and it was silly, but we still had fun. I was the only man in the entire room. Laura and I also won our game of whist against a couple old ladies. #booktok

Also the bluest flower I ever done seen

MLEM MLEM MLEM

If you go to the lovely Maka'eo walking path out by the Old Kona airport, there are often aloes blooming that have day geckos doing a MLEM in the nectar. Also a great place for spotting the (unfortunately invasive) but charismatic mongeese, and a delightful assortment of plumeria. 🐍🌱

It's a blustery world, but it still contains beauty worth defending. I just finished contacting my government leaders (yet again). If you have the power to do so, you should exercise this right immediately before the sun sets, both figuratively and literally.

Look how fat these snowflakes are! You can see their shadows in the streetlight. #wx

My snowbird parents left & texted me to go over & clean the perishables out of their fridge & use them so they don't go bad while they're gone.

WHAT THE HELL MOM?!

THEY'VE BEEN GONE LESS THAN A WEEK.

I'd be impressed at this as a practical joke if they were clever enough to think of it. BLECCHHH🤮

My gosh it is freaking dire out there, if you have the need or guts to be online today, please enjoy this lovely orchid cactus flower from a rare sunny winter day in the Inland Northwest. 🌱🌿
