Support and Resources for Our Community Dear Saint Paul Public Schools Families, Over the past couple weeks, we have seen increased federal law enforcement actions in St. Paul. While none of these situations have occurred on school property, I understand the fear and anxiety that so many people in our community feel when these incidents happen in our community. < 570 Support and R... ^ V I want to confirm that Saint Paul Public Schools is committed to protecting the right of ALL students to have a free public education regardless of their immigration status or the status of their family members. SPPS has several policies and procedures in place to protect our students and staff that were reaffirmed by the Board of Education in a resolution in February 2025. As superintendent, I want to assure you that SPPS does not ask families for their immigration status. We also do not allow law enforcement access to students or staff on school property without a signed judicial warrant. All principals, security personnel, bus drivers, and other key staff members have been trained on our safety procedures, and are prepared to follow our protocols in the event that federal law enforcement appears on school property. Resources for Families The SPPS website (spps.org/immigration) has a comprehensive set of resources for families. These resources include: • Information about how to update your emergency contacts, make a family plan, and create a Delegation of Parental Authority_ (DOPA). • School district policies and procedures regarding student privacy, visitors, and law enforcement • Guidance documents from community-based organizations • A list of local immigration services While SPPS is doing everything we can to ensure our schools remain safe places for all students, we also recognize that families are worried about immigration enforcement actions outside of school. Families are encouraged to use the resources from the City of St. Paul at stpaul.gov/immigration-resources to help loved ones and neighbors stay safe and access legal services.
