told my creative writing class I like to have my stories outlined before diving in, but what I actually meant is I like to have a kickass ending and a few gay scenes in mind before trying to decipher a plot
When a writer says they've outlined their story, what they really mean is they've envisioned 3-4 cool scenes they now need to somehow tie together into a plot
