Sure, but I don’t think that means he’s “unaware” that they got played. I think he’s aware, but has no idea how to address it publicly/politically in a way that he thinks will connect one of the above dots.

I’m not sure I believe that’s true. I think they simply live their public lives through the lens of the most recent poll numbers, their next election, a shallow desperation to retain the appearance of relevance, and no fucking clue how to connect those dots.

He absolutely got that number from one of those IQ quiz Facebook apps.

I also want to be very clear: this is not exclusively a “right wing” problem, this is a human problem. It’s simply that for a myriad of reasons, it’s more visible right now in those with anti-progressive ideologies.

It’s never going to be enough. Their entire sense of self is centered around being victimized, either by the majority or the fringe, because (by and large) they are fundamentally unhappy and lack the capacity to acknowledge their own “tribe” might be the source of their own unhappiness.
