every time i think about astarion i think about the mod i saw that gives all of wyll's romance animations to astarion and i get mad. if you wanted to romance someone who would treat you that way wyll is RIGHT THERE.

in a game where balance doesn't matter as much as letting your players have fun, you wouldn't be afraid to give your monk class a million punches per round and 90 seconds of physically implausible airtime per jump and, like, energy blasts. bc that's their Thing.

doing cool tricks conflicts with the action economy of doing lots of punches and also draws from the same pool of limited resources. so even if the class was balanced in the damage department, it would still be a flavor fail

in a better designed game, d&d monks could thrive despite their flaws by letting you play out a sick as hell wuxia fantasy. unfortunately for my d&d boys who love the class, we don't live in that world

my crusade against the d&d monk continues. d&d is a game where almost every class feature is explicitly designed to make you better at violence. monks, like most martial classes, have no useful features that provide any out-of-combat utility. but they also start the weakest and scale the slowest.
